READER'S THEATRE -Youth

We are proud to announce a 2 show, 8 week program (Shrek Jr, Legally Blonde Jr) that will bring us together in fun. You don’t have to have any experience to join the ensemble, nor will you have to audition. The program is outlined below:

1. Individuals wanting to participate without being cast in a lead role/or and just want to sing through the ensemble numbers, need not audition but merely pay the $89 participation fee.  

2. Individuals wishing to be cast as a lead, are required to audition with 1 song performed by the character they wish to be cast in. If you wish to play more than one part in a show, please choose your favourite. Casting will be dependent upon # of participants. (please also send secondary/third choices in the email)

3. The structure of the program is as follows:

4. Each show will be “read thru” 4 times in rotation.

   1. 1st read through will involve all cast reading through the show as cast.

      1. At the end of the read thru, anyone in the cast will have the opportunity to perform any number from the selected musical, for their peers in a masterclass format, with feedback from the rest of the cast. This creates a safe space to “try out” songs you may have always wanted to sing in a non-threatening environment.

   2. 2nd read through will be in a masterclass format for the cast with feedback by the directorial panel. (This would be closer to the actual rehearsal process)

   3. 3rd read through would be a final “similar to the first with direction and feedback.

   4.   4rth read through would be a final “performance like” version where “dressing the part” is encouraged.

5. The program fee is $89 which includes an original script which the child can keep for both shows. Please note, BMT pays for the rights of 1 show PLUS all the scripts(which we must buy 30 of) The cost of the scripts and rights is $2000.00 CAD

6. Open to you aged 6-17.

7. Backing tracks will be provided as well as links to practise tracks to learn the songs.

Auditions are open until the 12th of July until July 20th Participants must register on BMT’s website and pay the $89 fee up front. Casting will take place the week of the 20th and all participants will be notified via email the same week.

The program begins June 14th and runs Saturdays from 9:30 to 12:00 pm am on Zoom.
